Cold, Drippy Walk Today

Share

We are having a cold, drippy rain today. I just got back from my walk, so I know this to be true. Did 10/20 sec. blasts, and 8 side crunch sets (20 reps each time.) So, all in all, I didn’t do as much as I have been doing, but, you know the really good part? While I was on this walk, I fantasized about walking the Portland Marathon! Now, granted, it’s only in the fantasization stage, but, still. Wouldn’t that be a hoot? I mean, my buddy CarolAnn walked the Portland Marathon with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkins lymphoma, so why do I think that’s so out of reach for me? Of course, CarolAnn was in her early 50’s when she did that and I’m now in my late ’60’s, but I love it that this just popped up in my head as I was rolling along, counting to 40 over and over. So, we shall see how it all works out.

Stef and I are going to an art show this evening, which should be fun. Tomorrow, we will be heading to Eugene to see THE LION KING at the Hult Center. We thought we were going out to the horse ranch to talk to them about volunteering, but these were the only decent tickets we could get to the Hult Center, so, Eugene is the destination for tomorrow. Plus, there’s a women’s march of some sort going on in Eugene, so we can go and cheer for that before the show.

The thing about Eugene is that they LOVE a parade. They probably have a parade more than most cities you’ll ever find…like, there’s a whole bunch of people sitting around on a street corner and someone says, “Hey, it’s Tuesday. We’ve all got banjos – LET’S MARCH!” And, they do. It’ll be fun. JS

Walking with Toby in the rain

Share

We just got back from a pretty drenching walk through some wooded area between the VA, the golf course and the frisbee golf course. We took Toby with us this time, too, so he could have an adventure, but we didn’t want to wear out his knee, so we packed up Jackson’s wagon and a couple of blankets and put Toby in there. He got out to run and pee and sniff a few times. Beyond that, we pulled him in the wagon. The rain was coming down pretty solidly, though, by the time we got to the turnaround spot, so we got quite soaked, and we are home now, drying out.
I did my personal best, however, of 20 second blasts, which was 12 yesterday. Did 14 today, and I lost track of the number of side crunches because there weren’t exactly corners on this route we walked and, besides, when it began to rain so hard, we sort of hot-footed it out of there.
At any rate, I’m glad we did it and I know we both feel better when we get a good walk in. Toby is pretty zonked right now, though, and is asleep on his blanket on the couch, which looks more and more appealing.

Hey want to see something fun?  Stef & Toby in a wagon trip Stephanie Neyhart said, “Jody, Toby and I had a wonderful walk with an added accommodation for Toby’s back knees… he walks some, he rides some. Toby then said he wanted to take the hill, so we did. Love his spirit, and Jody’s ability to launch into the moment and catch it on video!!! My first video edit, lol…”

Toby, Exercise, New Year

Share

Just did our power walk. We took Toby, too, so he could practice walking again, but his leg would get tired and Stef would carry him for a block or so. I took the longer route, so I wound up doing 9-20 sec. blasts and 7 sets of side crunches. Gray and cloudy today and really cold, so I wore some different gloves and am glad about it, too.

Onward and upward now. Enjoy your day, everybody. JS

Chores

Got the watering done in back – well, almost all of it. Went to the Post Office, COSTCO, the car wash, the Overturned Grocery Cart (it’s called Grocery Outlet but we call it the Overturned Grocery Cart because we never know exactly what they’ll have or what will be spilling out of that joint, but it’s close and pretty cheap, mostly, and the clientele is sometimes interesting.) Anyway, it’s all part of the THINGS I GOTTA DO WHEN I GET HOME ROUTINE and it takes lots of time to get it all done. It’s a gorgeous day here, though, nice and sunny and not hot, maybe in the mid-70’s, which is pretty nice for summer, I must say. JS

Now this is rain

Share

We are used to the rain up here in the Pacific NW during the fall and winter months, but not THIS kind of rain, a down-pour so unrelenting it makes you get up in the night and stare out the window to see if you can spot one of the Four Horsemen galloping across the back yard. Wow.

Feels like a Dallas thunderstorm, without the thunder, lightning and the feeling that you are being shot at with some sort of assault weapon. It is intense. Rain is necessary, we know that, in order to bring on the kind of greenery we enjoy up here, but the rain has always been a sort of misting, like Mother Nature is sort of spitting on you for months at a time, so this is kind of scary. September in Tulsa

Share

It is still boiling hot in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in case you are wondering. September in Texas & Oklahoma, however, is a hopeful month. It’s still scorching hot but, in September, there’s hope because we all know it will soon be October. Everything changes in October and life feels manageable again – a good feeling. Gonna go walk Kay & Stephen’s dog now, so I’m trying to psych myself up for this. If you don’t hear from me again, you’ll know I have melted into a puddle of Jody and all is lost. Try not to step in me. JS

Stormy in Tulsa

Share

Rainy, stormy night here in Tulsa. Bad storms and tornadoes are around somewhere, although not here, not right now.

I did 6 rolfing sessions today, ate some delicious soup and salad for dinner, ran a couple of errands and beat it back to Kay & Stephen’s before the big rains hit. Now, I am pooped.

Stay safe and warm, everyone. Hard to believe it’s almost the end of May and I’m sitting here in a fleece jacket in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Don’t think climate change is upon us, Sen. Inhofe? You might want to re-think that one. JS

a toad-choker of a storm

Share

Wow – a real toad-choker of a rain storm last night here in Lubbock. A little bit of hail was in the mix, too, although not as bad as some places south of Lubbock got smacked with. I know people tend to think that Texans exaggerate – and, it’s true, we do – but, really, never about the weather. We don’t have to.

Wowza, what a storm. JS
